“Bishop Blake’s Dance with the Devil

As members of the Church Of God In Christ arrive in Saint Louis, many members will be in utter denial or unaware of the sexual predators and clandestine homosexuals attending the Holy Convocation. Similar to the Catholic Church, COGIC has a dark past that’s rising akin to a mist from an early morning dew. At the head of the four headed fiend is Bishop Charles Blake. Hand picked (the vote was a smoke screen) to replace Bishop Gilbert Patterson, Blake was assumed to lead COGIC into the 21st century. The Old Guard, thought to be uneducated (to date COGIC doesn’t have an accredited university or technical school) and out of the touch with the rest of society; lead the organization to near bankruptcy.

Blake, a man revered and respected throughout the world will finally be brought to his knees when his skeletons are revealed. Blake’s soft stance on homosexuality and his lack of leadership will cause COGIC to lose its distinct identity as advocates of holiness. COGIC has always been known for its position of holiness. COGIC believes chastity, speech and conduct ought to represent the Holy Scriptures. Through the Holy Scriptures, Saints must follow the Word of God and not participate in sinful or questionable situations.

Blake’s ungodly silence and self righteousness opened the door of opportunity for Professor Peter J. Gomes. Gomes, an openly gay pastor (?) of Harvard University’s Memorial Church spoke at West Angeles Church of God in Christ. Blake, who is married, wrote in his defense of Gomes’ visit to his church that “homosexuality has never been and will never be my temptation. But all sin is sin. The practice of homosexuality is a sin. But it is not the only sin. I have also stood for forgiveness, mercy, and respect for all human being.”

Concerning sexual improprieties, Blake’s ungodly silence aided the late J D Husband’s homosexual desires. Blake refused to out J D as he preyed on young men during his 20 + year reign. Husband’s own wife, who divorced him in the late seventies, allegedly reported him numerous times to the General Board in Memphis, complaining of his homosexual adultery and liaisons, but to no avail. The top presbytery refused to act. The failure of the board to act swiftly and decisively with their contemporary may have pushed him to even further into the double lifestyle.
Just this year, James Tobias Fox, who at 15 was molested by Husband, died of HIV. Whether Husband’s death was AIDS related, I’ll let you draw your own conclusion(s).

Another predator Sherman Allen, a self proclaimed prophet, has been accused by multiple women of rape and sexual harassment. Allen has been sued by one woman, a former member of his church who claims Allen coerced her into a sexual relationship under the guise of counselling; repeatedly beat her with a wooden paddle as a form of spiritual chastisement, causing bruising and bleeding; and sexually assaulted her. An additional woman has accused Allen of raping her anally and vaginally with a three-foot club in a 1983 case that resulted in a criminal charge of aggravated sexual abuse. The charge was later dropped; the woman maintains it was because Allen threatened to do the similar to her daughter, and she consequently stopped assisting prosecutors. Below is a list of COGIC Bishops, Elders, Pastors and Ministers charges or convicted of crimes against parishioners. By no means is the list complete.

    14) Rev. Leon Dupree, a district superintendent and pastor of Lily of the Valley Church of God in Christ in Rochester, NY, is charged with first degree sexual assault of a 26 year old woman. Rome NY Daily Sentinel 5.28.88

    15) Ruben Thankful Thompson of Real People COGIC, Waverly, and Florida was arrested for five counts of incest of his daughter. Some church members said there had been rumors for some time but many disbelieved and dismissed the allegations. The Voice Newspaper Richmond VA. 12.29.07

    16) Isaac Goodwater, former pastor at the Emmanuel COGIC in Taftville, CT was arrested in 2003 and charged in connection with the alleged assault of two girls. Goodwater reached an agreement with state prosecutors and pleaded no contest to two counts of coercion. He received a suspended sentence and two years of conditional release in 2005.

    17) Rev. William Bosley of Kenosha, Wisconsin, was sentenced to 55 years in prison for sexually abusing a six year old girl in his church while her blind mother was cleaning the building. Bosley founded the Sunrise Church of God in Christ, Waukegan, Illinois, in 1969. He also pleaded guilty to sexually abusing the child’s 12 year old sister in the home of their grandmother. The sentencing took into account Bosley’s recent conviction for firing a gun into a car. He had served a 28-month sentence for sexual abuse of an 11 year old girl in Washington State 20 years before. Sentencing Judge Walter Block stated: “He took his position, duty and responsibility and used it to facilitate his criminal behavior.” Assistant state attorney Victoria Rossetti, of Lake County, stated: “These people trusted him. He helped them, but he continuously violated these young girls.” (Source: Chicago Tribune, 10/22/87)

Many will read this and question my motives. Yes, I was once a member of COGIC, but separated due to COGIC’s incompetence and refusal to be a beacon for the next generation. I’ve been privy to many dark secrets and witnessed the Pentecostal circus first hand. Shedding light, will only heal, what’s truly broken. While I believe in forgiveness, I will not sit silent or allow Blake a pass until he atones and steps down from COGIC’s General Board of Bishops.”

Your beef is not only with Bishop Blake one of the problems is the powerful Board of Bishop headed by Bishop Sheard. That’s where a lot of cases are heard. Blake is limited by the Official Manual of the COGIC as well as the rules of the Board of Bishops. Some how this board has been successful in covering for it’s wayward officials.
